Autocar magazine, 29th November 2005, reports that Saab's upcoming 9-4X Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) looks set to be made in Mexico on the same production lines as the mechanically identical Cadillac BRX.
The decision to rebadge the Cadillac BRX is a move to 'cut costs and boost efficiency'. The Saab 9-4X and Caddy BRX are sister models of next year's Vauxhall Antara and Chevrolet's Captiva 4x4. The new model is expected to go into production in mid-to-late 2008
The 9-4X would be Saab's first crossover vehicle and would fill the void left by the stillbirth of the 9-6X -- Saab's proposed derivative of the Subaru B9 Tribeca. The 9-6X was scrapped at the eleventh hour when GM elected to sell its stake in Subaru's parent, Fuji Heavy Industries.
